Why
Sustainability
Preserving historical value and significance
Designing for conservation with practical application
To make something unique, something different
We believe that there is a certain beauty in aircraft, they represent a dream that was to leave the earth and enter the clouds. They are also a symbol of significant technological achievement in the history of or species. Once an aircraft is decommissioned most of the time they then become forgotten relics, left to rust away, crushed into cubes or buried in a ditch, with a lucky select few chosen to be preserved in a museum. Other than the museums this is a terrible waste and by repurposing these planes we can make a positive contribution to sustainability and the historical preservation of our aviation history.
When scraps such as metals are recycled we imagine that they are crushed and melted together back to their original materials and then used again to make new products such as a new car. This is actually far from the case. Because the cars are melted down along with other car parts including copper cables, plastics and paints, these materials all combine to produce a weaker, lower quality steel. Even if high quality steel is added to this new steel hybrid it would still not be suitable for the production of new cars. Also all the other materials which had value to industry such as plastics, copper and paints are lost. We believe recycling in this form should be a last resort. This is why we choose to repurpose with practical applications.
